Does Perplexity use your data for training?

For consumer Free, Pro and Max accounts, Perplexity says AI data retention for model improvement is enabled by default. Users can turn it off in account preferences. The setting affects model-improvement use, but it does not stop every form of processing required to operate, secure or legally maintain the service.
Perplexity says Enterprise data is not used to train its models. It also says contracts prohibit third-party model providers from training on data sent through Perplexity.
Retention is a separate question from training. Turning off model improvement does not instantly delete search history. Deleting a thread may not remove a copy stored somewhere else. Session files, project files and account information can follow different schedules.
