The most complete way to use Meta AI is through the standalone Meta AI app or at meta.ai. You can also access the assistant inside supported versions of WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, Messenger, Threads and Meta's AI glasses. Availability and features differ by account and country, so use the route that is actually visible to you.

Before you start

You need:

a supported country and account;
the latest version of the relevant app;
a Meta account or the account required by the surface;
network access;

Meta rolls out features gradually. Two users in the same country can see different modes, buttons or limits. The absence of a feature does not necessarily mean the account is broken.

The Meta AI app also functions as the companion app for supported Meta glasses, so existing glasses users may find device settings and assistant history in the same product.

Step 2: sign in

Sign in with the supported Meta account flow. The app may offer account linking through Accounts Center. Linking can improve continuity and personalization, but it can also expand the context available to the assistant.

How to use Meta AI on the web

Go to meta.ai and sign in where required.

The web interface is useful when you need to:

compare sources in other tabs;
paste longer text;
work on a presentation;
inspect generated images on a larger screen;
or maintain a longer project.

For research, ask Meta AI to expose its process:

Use primary sources where possible. List each important claim with its source, publication date and event date. Label Meta's own statements as company claims. Separate fact from inference.

Open the original sources. A citation is useful only when it supports the sentence attached to it.

Use Incognito chat where available

Meta introduced Incognito chat for WhatsApp and the Meta AI app. Meta says these chats use Private Processing, cannot be read by Meta and disappear by default.

To use it, look for an Incognito or private-chat option in the current Meta AI interface. Because the rollout is gradual, the control may not yet appear for every account.

Use Incognito for a more private consumer conversation, but do not treat it as a substitute for a signed enterprise agreement or a regulated-data system.

How to use Meta AI on Instagram

Meta AI can appear in Instagram search, direct messages and creation tools.

Check that generated copy does not invent a quotation, source or statistic.

Important Muse Image correction

Meta initially announced an image feature that could reference public Instagram accounts through an @-mention. Meta removed that capability after feedback and updated the official announcement on July 10, 2026.

Do not rely on old articles or screenshots that still describe it as available.

How to use Meta AI on Facebook and Messenger

On Facebook, Meta AI can appear in search, AI Mode, conversations and content-discovery experiences. It can draw on public perspectives from Groups, Reels, posts and Marketplace where the product supports that context.

Use it for:

Meta AI does not appear

update the app;
confirm the feature is available in your country;
check age and account eligibility;
sign out and back in;
restart the device;
and wait if the feature is still rolling out.

A mode or action is missing

The feature may be limited to the app, website or selected markets. Try meta.ai and the standalone app. Do not assume a feature announced for one surface is available everywhere.

Voice or camera does not work

Check operating-system permissions, network connection and whether another app is using the microphone or camera.

The answer is outdated

Ask Meta AI to search current sources, provide direct links and state the date of each source. Then verify the result manually.
