MediaTek Unveils 2nm Dimensity 9600 Pro With Massive Power Efficiency Gains
The race for mobile computing supremacy just hit a major milestone. MediaTek has officially announced the Dimensity 9600 Pro, a flagship smartphone system-on-chip built on a cutting-edge 2-nanometer process node. According to the company's latest technical briefing, this architectural leap delivers a staggering 61 percent reduction in multi-core power consumption compared to previous generations, fundamentally changing how high-performance mobile devices manage thermal and battery constraints.
Announced from Hsinchu, Taiwan, the new silicon represents a major validation of TSMC’s enhanced N2P manufacturing process. By adopting a nanosheet transistor structure, the chip achieves significant gains in logic density without sacrificing speed. JC Hsu, corporate senior vice president at MediaTek, emphasized that modern smartphones require a delicate balance of raw power and intelligent resource management to handle rapidly evolving user demands.

Redefining Mobile Compute Architecture

At the heart of the Dimensity 9600 Pro lies a unique 2+3+3 "All Big Core" CPU design. This configuration features two C2-Ultra cores clocked up to 4.55GHz, flanked by six C2-Pro cores running at 4.35GHz and 3.1GHz respectively. This aggressive layout yields up to 17 percent higher single-core performance and a 15 percent boost in multi-core throughput, all while maintaining that remarkable efficiency profile.
To support this computational heavy lifting, the chipset introduces industry-first integrations of LPDDR6 memory and UFS 5.0 storage, paired with a massive 34.5MB cache. An upgraded Dimensity Scheduling Engine dynamically coordinates hardware and software, ensuring that background applications run smoothly without draining the battery.

Agentic AI and Advanced Imaging

Beyond raw compute, the Dimensity 9600 Pro is engineered for the next wave of artificial intelligence. Its dual-NPU architecture and dedicated Agentic AI Engine allow the device to perceive, reason, and act locally. The second-generation Super Efficient NPU slashes always-on AI power draw by 40 percent, while the NPU 1090 boosts large language model token generation per watt by 55 percent. This hardware foundation enables sophisticated, personalized digital twin experiences directly on the handset.
Gamers and creators also benefit from substantial upgrades. The G2-Ultra NX GPU pushes peak performance up by 27 percent and accelerates raytracing by 18 percent. Meanwhile, the Imagiq 1290 image signal processor introduces 4K240 native ultra-slow-motion video and 17EV imaging capabilities, merging computational photography with real-time AI enhancements.
MediaTek also revealed a companion chip, the Dimensity 9600M, designed to bring these flagship-level efficiencies to a broader market segment. The first smartphones powered by both the Pro and M variants are expected to hit retail shelves later this quarter, signaling a new era of hyper-efficient mobile computing.
