Google signs long-term deals with Arsenal, FC Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain.
Gemini becomes the clubs’ official consumer AI partner, while Pixel is the official
smartphone partner.
These five teams rank among the world’s most powerful
football brands. Google wants to use the partnerships to put Gemini in front of fans and to produce exclusive club content with Pixel.
Individual agreements with PSG, Bayern and Barcelona were already announced earlier this month. On August 17, Google bundled all five deals into a single
joint announcement. Liverpool confirmed the expansion separately today.
What will Gemini actually do for fans?
Google says supporters can use Gemini to prepare for matches. The AI assistant can pull information on past meetings, players, stats and possible tactical line-ups.
A fan could ask Gemini how often Barcelona and Bayern have faced each other, what style a rival prefers, or which players have mattered most this season. Most of that is already possible with the existing search and reasoning features in
Gemini.
Google also teases new AI experiences for supporters, but it’s not announcing a dedicated football mode, an exclusive app or a firm release date. For now, this is primarily a marketing and content partnership—not the launch of a brand-new Gemini product.
Behind-the-scenes access with Pixel
Club media teams will use Google Pixel to capture behind-the-scenes footage. Under the Shot on Pixel banner, fans will get closer to training sessions, players and matchdays.
This footage could be recorded in locker rooms, stadiums and training facilities, where clubs allow access. Pixel users will also get official wallpapers from all five clubs. Google is tying those backgrounds to the new Pixel 11 series.
For Google, it’s a chance to showcase its smartphone cameras to a global audience. For the clubs, it’s more content without building a new tech platform from scratch.
Spotlight on the women’s game
The deals don’t just cover the men’s teams. Google says it will work with the clubs to boost visibility for women’s football as well.
At Bayern, the partnership supports both the men’s and women’s teams. Liverpool says earlier Pixel content around Liverpool Women generated millions of views. Those figures come from the club itself and should be read primarily as campaign results.
In recent years, Google has often used sports to position Gemini and Pixel to mass audiences—across cricket, international events and multiple national leagues.
Football becomes an AI showcase
These deals show AI companies are adopting an old playbook from banks, automakers and betting firms: partner with football clubs to reach a huge global audience fast.
That matters especially for Gemini. Many consumers now recognize ChatGPT by name, while Google wants to anchor its assistant to everyday moments. Football questions are easy to ask, endlessly repeated and perfect for stats and summaries.
Still, oversight is needed. Gemini can confidently explain tactics and match history, but stats or current squads can be wrong. For injuries, line-ups and transfers, official club sources remain more reliable.
For now, the five partnerships mainly put Gemini front and center around these clubs. Whether fans will get truly new features will depend on future announcements.
