ChatGPT costs between $0 and $200 per month for an individual in the United States. The Free plan costs nothing, Go costs $8 per month, Plus costs $20, and the two Pro tiers cost $100 or $200. ChatGPT
Business costs $25 per user with monthly billing or $20 per user per month when billed annually. Enterprise uses custom pricing.
Those numbers are the easy part. The difficult part is understanding what the upgrade actually buys.
Some plans add more messages but not OpenAI’s strongest reasoning model. Others include advanced tools but still impose separate allowances on particular models or agentic tasks. Business can appear cheaper than Pro on a per-seat basis, yet it serves a different purpose and requires at least two standard seats.
This guide focuses exclusively on the commercial decision: current prices, billing terms, usage allowances, upgrade differences and the plan that makes sense for each type of user. For a broader explanation of the product itself, read our
complete guide to ChatGPT.

The short recommendation
- Start with Free if you are still discovering whether ChatGPT belongs in your routine.
- Choose Go if Free regularly blocks ordinary chat, uploads or image creation, but you do not need GPT-5.6 Sol.
- Choose Plus if you use ChatGPT for paid work, research, coding or analysis and need the advanced reasoning models.
- Choose Pro 5× only when Plus limits are interrupting valuable work or you specifically need the Pro reasoning option.
- Choose Pro 20× when you have already measured enough usage to justify double the price of Pro 5×.
- Choose Business when two or more people need a controlled company workspace, centralized administration and business data protections.
- Choose Enterprise when procurement, identity, compliance, data residency, support or organization-wide governance are part of the buying decision.
For most individuals, the real choice is Go versus Plus. For organizations, it is Business versus Enterprise. Pro is aimed at a narrower group of intensive individual users.
What each ChatGPT plan costs per year
Go, Plus and Pro are monthly subscriptions. OpenAI does not currently offer an annual individual plan or allow users to prepay several months at a discount.
| Plan | Monthly charge | Cost over 12 months |
| Go | $8 | $96 |
| Plus | $20 | $240 |
| Pro 5× | $100 | $1,200 |
| Pro 20× | $200 | $2,400 |
| Business, monthly billing | $25 per seat | $300 per seat |
| Business, annual billing | $20 per seat | $240 per seat |
Annual Business billing saves $60 per seat over 12 months compared with keeping the same seat on monthly billing, a 20% reduction. Because Business requires at least two standard ChatGPT seats, the minimum standard cost is:
- $50 per month on the monthly plan;
- $480 per year for two seats on the annual plan, normally charged for the year;
- $600 over 12 months if two seats remain on monthly billing for the full year.
Taxes and regional prices can change these totals.
Individual ChatGPT plans compared
The following table concentrates on differences that materially affect a buying decision. A label such as “limited” reflects OpenAI’s own public wording where it does not guarantee one permanent numerical allowance.
| Feature | Free | Go | Plus | Pro |
| US price | $0 | $8/month | $20/month | $100 or $200/month |
| GPT-5.5 Instant | Limited | Expanded | Expanded | Highest individual access |
| GPT-5.6 Sol | No | No | Medium and High | Medium, High and Extra High |
| GPT-5.6 Sol Pro | No | No | No | Yes |
| Published GPT-5.5 Instant allowance | Dynamic within a five-hour window | Up to 160 messages per three hours | Up to 160 messages per three hours | Higher allowance varies by Pro tier |
| Thinking option | Limited availability | Up to 10 messages per five hours; not GPT-5.6 Sol | GPT-5.6 reasoning | GPT-5.6 reasoning plus Pro |
| Instant context window | 27K total | 54K total | 54K total | 128K total |
| Reasoning context window | Varies | 256K total | 256K total | 400K total |
| Files per Project | 5 | 25 | 25 | 40 |
| Library storage | 500 MB | 4 GB | 20 GB | 100 GB |
| Deep Research | Limited | Limited | Expanded | Maximum individual access |
| Create custom GPTs | No | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Scheduled tasks | No | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| ChatGPT Work | Limited on desktop | Limited on desktop | Desktop, web and mobile | Desktop, web and mobile |
| Agent mode | No | No | 40 messages per month | 400 messages per month |
| Apps connected to internal tools | No | No | Yes | Yes |
Context-window figures are total windows, not the amount of text a user can always paste. System instructions, tools, memory, retrieved information and the model’s output also use context. OpenAI therefore describes maximum input capacity separately and warns that available space can change with the features in use.
The model and agent allowances above are especially likely to change. The current in-product counter is more authoritative than an old article or screenshot.
ChatGPT Free: what do you get for $0?
The Free plan is no longer just a restricted text demo. It includes limited access to GPT-5.5 Instant, web search, uploads, data analysis, image generation, Deep Research, memory, Codex and ChatGPT Work on desktop. Free users can also discover and use GPTs made by other people.
Its central limitation is not the absence of useful features but the frequency with which access can stop or fall back.
OpenAI does not publish one permanent Free message count. Instead, it describes GPT-5.5 Instant access as limited within a five-hour window, with the actual allowance able to vary by market, demand, account activity and abuse-prevention systems. File analysis, images and other tools can have their own limits. Hitting the image limit does not necessarily mean the ordinary chat allowance has also ended.
Free currently includes:
- 27K total context for GPT-5.5 Instant;
- up to five files in each Project;
- 500 MB of Library storage;
- limited memory and past-chat reference;
- limited and slower image generation;
- limited Deep Research;
- limited Codex and desktop Work access.
It does not include creation of custom GPTs, scheduled tasks, Sites, GPT-5.6 Sol or agent mode. Ads may appear for eligible Free users in markets where OpenAI is testing them.
Who should stay on Free?
Free is sufficient when ChatGPT is used for occasional questions, light rewriting, simple brainstorming or a few searches. It is also the correct starting point for someone who cannot yet identify a repeated task worth paying to improve.
When should you upgrade from Free?
Upgrade only after a specific constraint becomes visible. Common signals are:
- the main chat allowance resets too often;
- file or image limits interrupt a repeated workflow;
- longer memory would improve continuing work;
- advanced reasoning is needed for analysis or coding;
- you want scheduled tasks or to create your own GPTs.
If the problem is mainly capacity, Go is the economical upgrade. If the problem is reasoning quality or professional tooling, Plus is the more meaningful step.
ChatGPT Go: is the $8 plan worth it?
ChatGPT Go is a low-cost capacity plan. It expands the features people use most frequently without including the complete advanced package available in Plus.
The $8 US subscription provides more GPT-5.5 Instant access, messages, uploads, image creation, data analysis and memory than Free. It also supports Projects, scheduled tasks and custom GPT creation where those features are available.
The most useful published allowance is up to 160 GPT-5.5 Instant messages every three hours. Once that model’s allowance is reached, conversations can continue on GPT-5.5 Instant mini until the counter resets. Go users can also deliberately enable Thinking for up to 10 messages every five hours, but that option does not use GPT-5.6 Sol.
Go raises Project capacity to 25 files and Library storage to 4 GB. Its total Instant context window is 54K, twice the Free figure.
What Go does not include
Go does not include GPT-5.6 Sol, GPT-5.6 Sol Pro, legacy models, Sora, Sites or agent mode. Deep Research remains limited. ChatGPT Work remains limited to the desktop experience, and the Go voice allowance is the same as Free.
The plan may include ads. OpenAI has tested advertising for logged-in adults on Free and Go in the United States, while paid higher tiers are positioned without those ads.
Go versus Free
Go is primarily an answer to interruptions. It gives the everyday model, uploads, images, analysis and memory more room. It is a sensible purchase when the Free product already does the right kind of work but stops too soon.
It is not the right upgrade if the desired feature is GPT-5.6 reasoning. Paying $8 and then discovering that the difficult task still requires Plus is the most avoidable mistake in this comparison.
Go versus Plus
Go costs $12 less per month than Plus, or $144 less across a year. The trade-off is advanced capability rather than merely another increase in the same allowance.
Choose Go when you mainly:
- ask everyday questions;
- write, rewrite and summarize;
- upload routine files;
- create images;
- use Projects and memory;
- want fewer Free-plan interruptions.
Choose Plus when you need:
- GPT-5.6 Sol with Medium or High reasoning;
- broader Deep Research;
- agent mode;
- ChatGPT Work on web and mobile as well as desktop;
- Sites, interactive tables and charts;
- connections to internal tools;
- more capable image creation and early feature access.
For casual daily use, Go may be the best-value ChatGPT subscription. For analytical or commercial work, the extra $12 for Plus is usually the more important upgrade.
ChatGPT Plus: what does $20 per month buy?
ChatGPT Plus is the standard individual professional plan. Its defining benefit is access to GPT-5.6 Sol, not simply a larger number of ordinary messages.
Eligible Plus users can select Medium or High reasoning for work that benefits from more deliberate analysis. Plus also expands Deep Research, Codex, images, memory, file handling and ChatGPT Work. It unlocks features including Sites, interactive tables and charts, connections to internal tools, record mode and earlier access to some releases.
Plus includes:
- GPT-5.6 Sol through Medium and High reasoning;
- up to 160 GPT-5.5 Instant messages per three-hour window before fallback;
- a 256K total reasoning context window;
- 25 files in each Project;
- 20 GB of Library storage;
- 40 agent-mode messages per month;
- ChatGPT Work on desktop, web and mobile;
- custom GPT creation and scheduled tasks;
- expanded Deep Research and Codex usage.
Does Plus mean unlimited ChatGPT?
The pricing table can describe messages and interactions as unlimited subject to reasonable-use rules, while individual model documentation still publishes a 160-message GPT-5.5 Instant allowance per three hours.
These statements refer to different layers of access. Reaching the full Instant model allowance can move a conversation to a smaller fallback rather than ending every possible ChatGPT interaction. GPT-5.6 reasoning, agent mode, Deep Research, images, Codex and other high-compute functions can each have separate counters.
“Unlimited” should therefore be read as continuing general access under normal use, not a promise that every model and tool can be used without a reset window.
Is Plus worth $20?
Plus is easy to justify when advanced reasoning or one of its professional tools saves more than a small amount of time each month. It is less compelling when the user only wants more ordinary messages, because Go already addresses that problem for $8.
The strongest reason to choose Plus over Go is a task, not a vague desire for “better AI.” Examples include:
- analyzing a difficult business decision with GPT-5.6;
- running repeatable research that exceeds Go’s limited access;
- using agent mode for multi-step online work;
- creating finished files through ChatGPT Work;
- conducting substantial coding work through Codex;
- connecting approved internal tools.
The
AI World Today prompt guide can help users get more value from any plan, but better prompting does not unlock a model excluded from the subscription.
ChatGPT Pro: why are there $100 and $200 versions?
ChatGPT Pro now has two prices:
- $100 per month for 5× more usage than Plus;
- $200 per month for 20× more usage than Plus.
Both Pro tiers include the same core capabilities. The difference is allowance. The $200 version remains the highest-volume option, while the $100 version offers Pro models and features without the maximum allocation.
Pro adds GPT-5.6 Sol Pro and Extra High reasoning. It also provides the largest individual context windows, maximum individual Deep Research access, expanded Codex, faster image creation, 40 files per Project, 100 GB of Library storage and 400 agent-mode messages per month.
What “5×” and “20×” mean
The multiplier is a useful headline, not a guarantee that every feature has exactly five or twenty times the same fixed counter. OpenAI notes that some models retain separate allowances and that these can differ between the two Pro tiers.
When a specific model allowance is reached, that model may temporarily disappear until its counter resets. The account has not necessarily been restricted, and other available models can still work.
Plus versus Pro
Pro should solve a measurable Plus limitation. It is difficult to justify a fivefold price increase on the assumption that outputs will automatically be five times better.
Move from Plus to Pro when:
- you need GPT-5.6 Sol Pro for unusually difficult or long-running work;
- reasoning, research, image or Codex allowances regularly stop paid work;
- a larger context window materially improves the documents or projects you handle;
- agent mode is useful more than the 40 monthly messages included with Plus;
- waiting for a reset creates a real cost.
Stay on Plus when advanced tools are helpful but their limits rarely interrupt you.
Which Pro tier should you buy?
Start with the $100 tier unless prior usage already proves that 5× will be insufficient. OpenAI allows users to move between Pro tiers from the plan settings. An upgrade takes effect immediately and starts a new billing cycle; a downgrade normally takes effect at the next renewal.
The $200 tier is most defensible for people whose daily research, development, design or analytical work already consumes the $100 allowance. It should be an evidence-based upgrade, not the default selection.
Pro is still a personal plan
Pro does not become a team account because it costs more. It lacks the dedicated workspace, central member administration and business data treatment of Business and Enterprise. Sharing one Pro login between colleagues also conflicts with OpenAI’s account-sharing rules.
ChatGPT Business pricing: $20 or $25 per user
ChatGPT Business is a self-serve organizational workspace for at least two standard users.
It costs:
- $25 per standard user per month on monthly billing;
- $20 per standard user per month with annual billing;
- a minimum of two standard ChatGPT seats.
A standard Business seat includes both ChatGPT and baseline Codex access inside the workspace. Organizations can purchase workspace credits for eligible use beyond included allowances.
What Business adds
The reason to buy Business is controlled collaboration. Features include:
- a dedicated company workspace;
- centralized billing and member management;
- administrative roles and controls;
- SAML single sign-on and multi-factor authentication;
- usage visibility, budgets and spend controls;
- shared Projects, GPTs and company knowledge;
- access to advanced models and tools;
- no training on workspace data by default.
OpenAI describes eligible base-model messages as virtually unlimited, subject to its service agreement and anti-abuse guardrails. Advanced models and high-compute features can still use separate allowances or credits.
Monthly versus annual Business billing
Annual billing is 20% cheaper per seat, but it involves a longer commitment. The monthly plan is more flexible when team size or adoption is uncertain.
Business billing also follows seat rules rather than actual login activity. Adding seats during a cycle can create prorated charges. On an annual plan, additional seats can trigger monthly true-up invoices. An unused seat is not automatically refundable simply because the employee did not use ChatGPT.
Start monthly if the organization is running a short pilot or expects headcount to change. Choose annual billing once the number of active users and the value of the deployment are reasonably stable.
Business credits and possible extra spending
Business combines a fixed seat fee with optional flexible usage. Included access is consumed first. Credits can then extend eligible models and features, depending on the workspace’s pricing setup.
OpenAI’s current Business and Enterprise rate card lists credit use for GPT-5.6 Sol, GPT-5.6 Sol Pro, agent mode, Deep Research, images, voice and several workplace agents. Administrators should configure budgets and review the live rate card instead of treating the seat price as the only possible cost.
Self-serve Business is also card-oriented. Organizations that require purchase orders, wire or ACH payments, net terms, a Business Associate Agreement, Zero Data Retention or other negotiated conditions should discuss a contracted offering with OpenAI.
A current Codex seat detail
New Business workspaces created after June 24, 2026 cannot add a Codex-only seat. Standard ChatGPT Business seats still include ChatGPT and Codex. Older eligible workspaces that had already added Codex seats can retain the separate usage-based seat arrangement.
For most new buyers, the important distinction is simple: budget for standard Business seats, with a two-seat minimum, and treat extra credits as a separate usage line.
ChatGPT Pro versus Business
Business can look like a bargain beside Pro: two monthly Business seats start at $50 in total, while the least expensive Pro tier costs $100 for one person. The plans are not ordered on one ladder.
| Question | Pro | Business |
| Designed for | One intensive user | A team of two or more |
| Starting standard price | $100/month | $50/month for two monthly seats |
| Main value | Higher individual throughput and Pro capabilities | Workspace administration and organizational data controls |
| GPT-5.6 Sol Pro | Included | Available within managed-workspace access and usage rules |
| Dedicated workspace | No | Yes |
| Central billing and admin | No | Yes |
| Training on submitted data | Personal data controls apply | No training on workspace data by default |
| Additional credits | Supported for selected features | Supported for eligible advanced usage |
| Minimum users | One | Two standard seats |
A freelancer who wants maximum model access but has no team will generally compare Plus with Pro. A company with two employees handling internal material should compare personal accounts with Business, even if neither employee is a power user.
Do not buy Business merely as a cheaper route to Pro-like labels. Workspace controls, shared usage and credits change the economics. Likewise, do not buy several personal Pro accounts when the actual requirement is centralized offboarding, company knowledge, identity management and organizational data treatment.
ChatGPT Enterprise pricing: why is there no public price?
ChatGPT Enterprise is sold through OpenAI’s sales process. Pricing depends on factors such as organization size, deployment scope, required controls, support and commercial terms. OpenAI does not publish one universal Enterprise seat price.
Enterprise extends the organizational product with capabilities such as:
- SCIM provisioning;
- Enterprise Key Management;
- domain verification;
- role-based access controls;
- expanded user analytics;
- advanced identity and permission controls;
- data residency options in supported regions;
- larger inputs and file handling;
- dedicated onboarding and account management;
- custom security review and enterprise support.
Enterprise is not simply Business with a higher message cap. It is a deployment and governance product.
Business versus Enterprise
Choose Business when a team can operate through self-service billing, standard workspace controls and a relatively simple rollout.
Talk to Enterprise sales when the organization requires:
- formal procurement or negotiated invoicing;
- automated provisioning and deprovisioning at scale;
- region-specific storage requirements;
- customer-managed encryption controls;
- advanced role and group policies;
- compliance logging or IP restrictions;
- contracted support, legal terms or security review;
- governance across several business units.
The cost comparison should include implementation and administration, not only a hypothetical seat figure. An inexpensive license that fails procurement or security requirements is not actually the cheaper option.
Special pricing for education and nonprofit organizations
ChatGPT Edu
ChatGPT Edu is intended for universities and uses custom institutional pricing. It includes enhanced privacy, security and administration rather than functioning as a discounted personal Plus subscription.
OpenAI also offers ChatGPT for Teachers free to verified US K–12 educators through June 2027. Eligibility, duration and regional availability should be confirmed on the current education pages.
OpenAI for Nonprofits
Eligible nonprofit organizations can receive substantially reduced Business pricing:
- $10 per user per month on monthly billing;
- $8 per user per month when purchased annually.
OpenAI also advertises discounts of up to 75% for qualifying larger nonprofits purchasing Enterprise. Verification and eligibility rules apply.
These discounts are more relevant than trying to reimburse personal Plus accounts across a nonprofit team, because the organizational plans also provide workspace controls and business data treatment.
Are ChatGPT subscriptions and API billing the same?
No. ChatGPT subscriptions and the OpenAI API are separate products with separate bills.
| ChatGPT subscription | OpenAI API |
| Pays for access through ChatGPT and its included experiences | Pays for model and tool use inside software built by a developer or business |
| Usually a fixed monthly seat or individual price | Usually metered by tokens, tools or other usage units |
| Includes the ChatGPT interface, account features and plan allowances | Requires an API account, billing setup and an application or integration |
| Does not create an equivalent API credit balance | Does not automatically provide Plus, Pro or Business seats |
A $200 Pro subscription does not fund $200 of API calls. A company building a customer-support application with OpenAI models needs API billing even if every developer already has ChatGPT Plus.
The reverse is also true: spending money through the API does not upgrade a personal ChatGPT account.
Use
OpenAI’s API pricing page for current token and tool rates. Do not use the ChatGPT plan price to estimate the operating cost of an API-based product.
How credits work on top of a ChatGPT plan
Credits complicate the simple idea that a subscription covers everything.
For eligible individual Plus and Pro users, OpenAI currently allows credits to extend selected features after included usage is exhausted. At the time of review, those individual credits applied to Codex and ChatGPT for Excel rather than every ChatGPT feature.
This means a user generally cannot assume that buying credits will restore any arbitrary model, Deep Research or image allowance. The available top-up options appear in the relevant usage interface.
For Business, Enterprise and Edu, credits can support a broader flexible-pricing system. A workspace may have:
- included usage;
- a shared credit pool;
- limits for individual users or groups;
- usage alerts;
- an overage setting;
- invoices for eligible consumption beyond committed credits.
An Enterprise setting labelled “No limit” can mean that no overage cap has been configured. It does not mean additional usage is free. Administrators should explicitly set spend controls when predictable cost matters.
Regional prices, currencies, taxes and app-store billing
The dollar prices in this guide are useful comparison points, but they are not a worldwide guarantee.
OpenAI supports localized web billing in many currencies, including euros, British pounds, Canadian dollars, Mexican pesos, Japanese yen, Indian rupees and Australian dollars. Available payment methods vary by country.
If a subscription is purchased through the iOS or Android app:
- Apple or Google manages the subscription;
- the charge appears in the local currency supported by the store;
- invoices, cancellation and refunds follow the store’s process;
- the displayed app-store total may not match a simple conversion of the US web price.
Check both the web and app checkout before subscribing if price matters. Do not maintain two subscriptions for the same account.
Applicable sales tax or VAT can be added according to location. Users and workspace owners can add eligible tax information to future invoices. Updating a Tax ID does not automatically rewrite invoices that have already been issued.
Can you cancel or switch ChatGPT plans?
Go, Plus and Pro renew monthly and can be cancelled. Access normally continues until the end of the paid period.
For Pro, an upgrade takes effect immediately and starts a new billing cycle. A move to a lower tier generally becomes effective on the next renewal. When switching from Plus or Pro to Go, OpenAI says the current plan remains active until the end of its billing cycle and does not provide a prorated refund for that downgrade.
Business owners manage billing and seats through workspace settings. Reducing a seat count may affect future invoices rather than reversing charges already committed for the current period. Annual customers should review renewal and true-up rules before changing a large deployment.
Subscriptions also remain tied to the account or workspace used to purchase them. Confirm the login method before paying, especially when Apple’s private relay email or several Google and Microsoft identities are in use.
Which ChatGPT plan offers the best value?
Value depends on the bottleneck being purchased away.
Best free option: ChatGPT Free
No paid plan beats Free when the current limits are not causing a problem. It includes enough of the product to test real tasks rather than buying from a feature list.
Best low-cost plan: ChatGPT Go
Go offers the strongest price-to-capacity improvement for everyday users. At $96 over a full year, it is far less expensive than Plus and removes many Free-plan interruptions.
Best individual work plan: ChatGPT Plus
Plus provides the most balanced package for a freelancer, creator, student or professional who genuinely uses advanced reasoning. The jump from $8 to $20 buys a different model tier and broader tools, not just more volume.
Best power-user starting point: Pro 5×
The $100 Pro tier is the rational first Pro plan. It provides Pro capabilities at half the price of the maximum tier. Users can observe actual limits before deciding whether the $200 allowance is necessary.
Best team plan: ChatGPT Business
Business is the natural self-service choice once at least two people need one managed environment. Its advantage is operational control rather than simply stronger answers.
Best governed deployment: ChatGPT Enterprise
Enterprise has the best fit when AI use must satisfy company-wide identity, security, compliance, residency and support requirements. “Best value” in this context means avoiding unmanaged adoption and deployment risk.
A simple way to calculate whether an upgrade pays for itself
Divide the monthly price by the value of one hour of your time. The result is the number of hours the plan must save each month to recover its subscription price.
| Plan | At $25/hour | At $50/hour | At $100/hour |
| Go, $8 | 19 minutes | 10 minutes | 5 minutes |
| Plus, $20 | 48 minutes | 24 minutes | 12 minutes |
| Pro 5×, $100 | 4 hours | 2 hours | 1 hour |
| Pro 20×, $200 | 8 hours | 4 hours | 2 hours |
This calculation is intentionally simple. Verification time, error risk and work that would not otherwise have been completed also matter.
Run the comparison with a real task:
- Record how long the task takes without the proposed plan.
- Complete it several times with ChatGPT.
- Include preparation, fact-checking and corrections.
- Measure whether a lower plan produces the same usable result.
- Upgrade only when the monthly gain reliably exceeds the cost.
The best subscription is the cheapest one that removes the actual constraint.
Common ChatGPT pricing mistakes
Buying Go for GPT-5.6 Sol
Go includes a limited Thinking option but not GPT-5.6 Sol. Plus is the entry point for Medium and High reasoning with GPT-5.6.
Treating “unlimited” as one universal allowance
Different models and features have separate limits. A general unlimited label does not remove every agent, research, image, voice or reasoning counter.
Buying Pro before reaching a Plus limit
Pro can be valuable, but the price difference is large. Measure the interruption before paying to eliminate it.
Using personal accounts for an unmanaged company rollout
Reimbursing Plus or Pro may appear easier than Business. It also leaves the company without central access, offboarding, billing and workspace controls.
Assuming Business includes all possible usage
The seat price includes substantial access, but flexible credits and overages can create additional costs for eligible advanced features.
Confusing ChatGPT with API credits
No ChatGPT subscription includes a matching API balance. Applications built with OpenAI models require separate API billing.
Comparing only US dollar prices
Local pricing, VAT, payment methods and app-store billing can change the amount actually charged.
Paying annually before a team pilot
The Business annual discount is useful after adoption is proven. A monthly pilot can be cheaper than committing unused seats for a year.
Frequently asked questions
How much is ChatGPT per month?
ChatGPT Free costs $0. In the United States, Go costs $8 per month, Plus costs $20, and Pro costs either $100 or $200. Business costs $25 per user on monthly billing or $20 per user per month when billed annually. Enterprise and Edu use custom pricing.
Is ChatGPT free to use?
Yes. The Free plan includes limited chat, search, files, images, data analysis, memory, Deep Research, Codex and desktop Work access. Individual features can reach separate limits.
Is ChatGPT Go available worldwide?
OpenAI says Go is available in every country where ChatGPT is supported. Local currency and payment availability can vary.
What is the difference between ChatGPT Go and Plus?
Go expands everyday usage for $8. Plus costs $20 and adds GPT-5.6 Sol, broader research and agentic tools, full ChatGPT Work access across supported surfaces, Sites and connections to internal tools.
Does ChatGPT Go include GPT-5.6?
Go does not include GPT-5.6 Sol in standard Chat. It offers a separate Thinking option with a published allowance of up to 10 messages every five hours.
How much is ChatGPT Plus per year?
Plus costs $240 across 12 monthly payments at the standard US price. There is no annual Plus plan or annual discount.
Is ChatGPT Pro $100 or $200?
Both. The $100 Pro tier provides 5× more usage than Plus, while the $200 tier provides 20×. Their core Pro capabilities are the same, but individual model allowances can differ.
Is ChatGPT Pro better than Business?
Not in every sense. Pro maximizes access for one individual. Business creates a managed workspace for at least two people, with central administration and no training on workspace data by default. The correct choice depends on throughput versus organizational control.
Can one person buy ChatGPT Business?
Self-serve Business requires at least two standard ChatGPT seats. A solo user will normally choose among Go, Plus and Pro.
What is the minimum cost of ChatGPT Business?
Two seats cost at least $50 per month with monthly billing. Two annually billed seats cost $480 for a full year at the standard US price.
Does ChatGPT Business include Codex?
Standard ChatGPT Business seats include ChatGPT and baseline Codex access. Additional eligible usage can require workspace credits. New Business workspaces can no longer add a separate Codex-only seat.
Is ChatGPT Enterprise pricing public?
No single Enterprise price is published. Organizations contact OpenAI for a quote based on deployment and commercial requirements.
Do ChatGPT subscriptions include API usage?
No. API use is metered and billed separately. Plus, Pro, Business or Enterprise access does not create an equivalent API credit balance.
Can I buy a yearly ChatGPT subscription?
Business and Enterprise support annual arrangements. Go, Plus and Pro are currently monthly only.
Are ChatGPT taxes included in the advertised price?
Not necessarily. Sales tax or VAT can be added depending on the buyer’s location and tax status. The checkout total and invoice are authoritative.
Is ChatGPT cheaper on the website or in the app?
The final price can depend on country, currency, tax and the Apple or Google billing system. Compare the totals shown at checkout rather than assuming one channel is always cheaper.
What happens when I reach a ChatGPT limit?
The result depends on the limit. ChatGPT may switch to a smaller model, pause a specific tool, display a reset time or offer eligible credit usage. Hitting one feature’s counter does not always disable the entire account.
Can I share a Plus or Pro subscription?
Personal subscriptions are intended for the account holder. OpenAI prohibits sharing account credentials or making an account available to other people. Teams should use an organizational workspace.
Does OpenAI offer nonprofit discounts?
Yes. Eligible nonprofits can obtain Business for $10 per user monthly or $8 per user per month with annual billing. Qualifying larger nonprofits can apply for an Enterprise discount of up to 75%.
The bottom line
ChatGPT pricing is easiest to understand as three separate decisions.
First, decide whether ordinary capacity or advanced capability is the problem. Go expands the everyday experience; Plus adds GPT-5.6 reasoning and a wider professional toolkit.
Second, power users should treat Pro as a measured upgrade. The $100 tier is the logical starting point, while the $200 tier is for people who can demonstrate a need for its larger allowance.
Third, organizations should stop comparing Business and Enterprise only with personal message limits. Their value lies in identity, administration, data treatment, deployment and governance.
Start with the lowest plan that can complete the real task. Measure where it fails. Then pay specifically to remove that failure.
